Variant Rules
There are several optional or variant rules which a DM running a game in the Worlds of Adventure campaign may elect to use or not, at his discretion. (The “default setting” for a Worlds of Adventure game is to use none of these.) The available variant rules are:
- Optional Rule: Favored Class Group — encourages players to stay within one class group, rather than cross-classing, by offering bonuses for attaining certain levels in a character’s primary class group
- Optional Rule: Easier Spell Item Crafting — allows spellcasters to easily create some items, such as potions which closely resemble the effects of a spell, without having to learn the recipe or acquire special ingredients
- Optional Rule: Elite Array — allows players to take the elite array of ability scores in lieu of rolled scores
- Optional Rule: Ability Score Matrix — the DM creates one matrix of ability scores, and players choose one of the available complete sets of scores
- Optional Rule: Extra Effort — rules that represent a character reaching for inner reserves of strength and will to do otherwise impossible things
